Online-Music Environments

Music is the Art of Time.

Internet has already changed the conception of Music as a live Art. Artificial music-production is already part of our every day experience with Music. Tunes produced without the need of human beings are made as easy as pressing a button on any online or offline device. Imagine that the sentence: "Put on some Music" actually makes sense! We accept reproductions of music with the same ease as if they were live. Musicians protect their rights even when their recorded artifact is a piece of plastic. You would say it is the same as if this artifact was a book... But Bach only had some notes of it...

What happens when we teach Music with ICT tools?

Teaching Music is a multidimensional process combining multiple brain activities with vision, hearing and feel. With the fundamental instruments within our bodies -our heart for rhythm and the vocal cords for pitch- our body is considered the link between: us, Time and Music. But what happens when we teach Music in an asynchronous environment, or when we use audio reproductions of existing musical instruments, or even when using ICT tools ? Teaching music is a process of sharing actions that produce sounds using either vocal or physical instruments. Learning music on the other hand is a participatory experience rather than a mental intention involving sound. That being said ICT tools can only enhance this experience without replacing known methods.

What are the purposes of this community?

This community is strongly commited in setting the foundations for a reasonable viable and fruitful use of live online resources towards musical instrument teaching. Online environments in the future should maintain the fundamental aspect of music-making that is the connection between our physical bodies with the musical phenomenon. Musical-instrument teaching should maintain the actual interaction between a true teacher and a true student. Virtual environments as far as musical-instrument teaching is concerned, should establish a relation between our true human bodies with our virtual avatars.
